The Regulations will provide employees with the right to take up to one week of statutory unpaid carer’s leave in a 12-month period to care for, or arrange care for, dependants with long-term care needs.
The Regulations also include provisions for protection from detriment and unfair dismissal relating to carer’s leave.
To be eligible for carer’s leave under the Regulations, the employee will need to have a dependant with a long-term care need, want to be absent from work in order to provide or arrange for care for that dependant and not have already exceeded their statutory entitlement to carer’s leave.
